Teaching Tamil language to our kids started in Houston area around 2001.
Due to the enormous growth of the Tamil School in the recent years, Greater Houston Tamil School has been formed as a registered non-profit organization.HTS is a member of American Tamil Academy (ATA) and a non profitable organization. Accordingly, HTS follows ATA syllabus and its books. There are three independent Tamil schools in the Houston area are functioning under HTS:

Katy Tamil School
Pearland Tamil School
The Woodlands Tamil School

A total of 160 students are learning Tamil language in these three schools. Tamil is taught in seven levels (grades) starting from Kinder Garden to Level 6.

There are about thirty voluntary teachers from three schools involved in teaching Tamil. Alongside of these teachers there are several volunteers helping to run the schools as coordinators, treasurers, secretaries, committee members, etc. Without these volunteers, it is difficult to run the schools.
