NONDISCRIMINATORY POLICY

The Greater Houston Tamil School Inc admits students of any race, color, national origin, and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs. This policy is effectively and affirmatively implemented by disclosing on the School’s website and brochures.

Background

Teaching Tamil language to our kids started in Houston area around 2001. Until today this effort is successfully continuing due to Tamil language loving people. Every year students joining Tamil School are increasing and hence the syllabus and school system are improving. This progressive journey is revealed as the Tamil Schools growth in the Houston area.

Due to the enormous growth of Tamil School, it has become necessary to streamline the administrative procedures not only to manage the existing schools and also to accommodate the future growth. Considering these factor, Greater Houston Tamil School has been formed in August 2012. It is a registered non-profit, tax-exempt organization.

About the School

Greater Houston Tamil School (HTS) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, accredited, special purpose educational institution teaching Tamil, a classical, literature rich, living South-Asian language, in the greater Houston area. Our school’s mission is to teach Tamil to individuals irrespective of their race, color, national origin, or ethnic origin, in a safe, caring, and nurturing environment.

A total of over 530 students are (Academic year 2019-20) enrolled in these 6 campuses.

A very unique aspect of our organization is that it is run entirely by dedicated volunteers with no monetary compensation for any of the leaders, teachers or staff members. There are over 75 dedicated, voluntary teachers who provide excellent Tamil education to our students. We offer classes from Pre-Kindergarten to Level 8. We follow curriculum from ATA (www.amtaac.org/) till grade 3 and have designed our own curriculum for the higher grades.

In addition to Tamil classes, we support and conduct events to enrich and propagate Tamil language and its heritage. We also offer leadership opportunities to our higher grade students.
