Academic Year

Academic year spans from August to May (June and July are summer holidays)

Tamil classes are conducted by the member schools according to their convenience either on Saturday or on Sunday. Each class period is 2 hours. Every academic year consists of 25 classes in each school. Three exams are conducted (November, February, and May).  Also, Tamil Competitions are conducted in each branch school for students around March/April. Prizes and Trophies are presented to the winners during the annual function, which is usually conducted in May 4th week by HTS.

Special events such as Thirukkural Thiruvizha, Pongal Kalaivizha, etc. are conducted and cash prizes are given for reciting Thirukkurals.  These special programs are focused to improve community involvement to teach Tamil collaboratively and with cultural fun activities.

Registration

In the beginning of every academic year, registration date will be announced through advertisements and emails by the member schools. Also, it will be announced through several known Google, Yahoo groups, news media, etc. On-line registration will be available.  Also, you can bring your child(ren) to the school on the registration date and register at the desk.  A nominal fee will be collected to cover books, trophies, annual function (free dinner), facility rentals, etc.  Although the fee will vary from branch to branch, it will be around $15 per month.  For more details, you can contact the branches, Pearland Tamil School, Katy Tamil School, Woodlands Tamil School, West Houston Tamil School, and Sugarland Tamil School.

Syllabus

In all the HTS member schools, a common syllabus is followed. Books from American Tamil Academy (ATA) are used for Mazhalai (Kinder garden) to Level 3.  For more details about the syllabus, please visit the ATA website. For higher levels (Level 4 to Level 6) HTS books are used.  HTS books are prepared by the HTS Syllabus committee.
