TEKS - LOTE Curriculum

TEKS - LOTE Curriculum

Our world language instruction reflects a whole-child and global learning philosophy, nurturing communication, cultural understanding, and academic confidence.

HTS curriculum is aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards for Languages Other Than English (LOTE). It follows a pedagogically sound sequence that begins with oral communication—developing students’ listening and speaking skills—followed by a strong focus on literacy growth in reading and writing. Through purposeful daily learning experiences, students build language proficiency while deepening their cultural understanding and global awareness. Each level of instruction is thoughtfully designed to meet or exceed TEKS expectations, supporting meaningful, real-world communication and cross-cultural connections.

The HTS follows TTA curriculum follows age-appropriate pedagogies (AAP) logistically (adoption/familiarization to engage significantly in speaking in elementary levels to writing in middle and higher levels) designed for weekend school teaching and has been vetted with HISD world languages.

Pedagogical Foundation

The HTS curriculum follows a research-based language development model that prioritizes comprehensible input—focusing on listening and speaking before introducing reading and writing. This natural sequence supports confident communication and meaningful literacy growth.
